Mozilla Tech Speakers
Please note: Due to the global pandemic and the cancellation of events and in-person gatherings worldwide, we have needed to change how we operate the Mozilla Tech Speakers program through the end of 2020. For example, we had planned a 2020 onboarding for new speakers, but, understandably, that is now postponed. Later this year, we will determine our approach for 2021.
Mozilla Tech Speakers are talented speakers, advocates, and educators, who present at conferences, organize workshops and trainings, and mentor others on technologies driving the open web and the health of the internet.
The global Mozilla Tech Speakers program is designed to recognize, promote, and develop the skills of these volunteer presenters. Tech Speakers inform others about the open web and Mozilla products and technologies at events around the world.
Our goal is to sustain a strong, community-driven technical speaker development program. We've assembled a global team of well-informed speakers working to promote a healthy internet and the technologies of the open web, alongside Mozilla staff and allies.
- Public speaking training
Our curriculum includes professional coaching and peer evaluation.
- Briefings and workshops
We organize tech briefings and workshops led by Mozilla staff and domain experts.
We support speaker participation in regional and global events.
- Speaking opportunities
We connect Tech Speakers with referrals to conference organizers looking for Mozilla speakers and assist our speakers in their proposal submissions.
- Support from like-minded individuals
We foster a community of individuals interested in technologies and public speaking. As a cohort, tech speakers assist each other and share tips and info.
Becoming a Mozilla Tech Speaker
Most Tech Speakers are already active in their communities as technical evangelists and educators when they join the program. Many, but not all, also contribute to Mozilla through other programs and volunteer activities.
There are two ways to join Mozilla Tech Speakers:
Apply via our open-application process, which is held annually. Follow @MozillaTechSpeakers on Twitter or the Speaking category on Discourse for the latest information on timing for the application process.
Applications for the next cohort are currently closed, but you can register your interest and we will contact you when we will start a new cohort..
Be nominated as a Tech Speaker by an active participant in the program in good standing or by an industry expert at Mozilla. This process is ad hoc and requires the completion of an evaluation process, including videos of past talks and an assessment interview with an internal expert. People who join the program this way are generally already being invited to large regional or global conferences and wish to affiliate themselves with Mozilla.
